Public Statement of the European Movement in Serbia

14.03.2025.

The European Movement in Serbia strongly condemns recent reporting by tabloid media outlets in Serbia, which unfairly portrays Romanian citizens in a manner that fosters negative stereotypes and may incite tensions. Such narratives are not only inappropriate but are also harmful to the strong and long-standing partnership between Serbia and Romania.

This is not the first time that tabloid media, under heavy government influence, have engaged in such reporting. It is particularly shameful that, at a time when students and citizens of Serbia are calling for justice and accountability, certain outlets choose to exploit this volatile situation to spread division and misinformation.

Serbia and Romania, as long-standing partners, share commitments to mutual respect, good neighborly relations, and European values. These principles must be upheld and reinforced through responsible public discourse and factual reporting. The European Movement in Serbia stands firmly against any rhetoric that seeks to create divisions or undermine the close ties between the two countries.

The European Movement in Serbia will continue working to promote trust and solidarity as fundamental pillars of Serbia’s European future. We call upon all relevant stakeholders, including media representatives, to act responsibly and contribute to strengthening constructive and forward-looking regional relations.
