The European Movement in Serbia calls on Minister of Internal Affairs Ivica Dačić and the Chief Public Prosecutor to conduct an urgent investigation and initiate proceedings against those responsible for the mass attack with an unknown sonic weapon. The attack took place on March 15, 2025, in Kralja Milana Street, targeting peaceful protest participants in Belgrade during a fifteen-minute tribute to the victims of the tragedy in Novi Sad.
This heinous attack caused public distress and resulted in injuries to dozens of citizens. However, it failed to achieve what its organizers and instigators likely intended—spreading fear and panic or provoking greater unrest and violence in response to the attack.
EMinS emphasizes that all major protests organized by students in blockade, including yesterday’s protest in Belgrade—which gathered hundreds of thousands of participants and was the largest protest in modern Serbian history—have been peaceful. An attack on such a massive protest is a direct attack on students in blockade, as well as on the majority of Serbian citizens who have been demanding for months that the authorities act responsibly and in accordance with the law and the Constitution. Warnings resembling threats of violence and unrest have mainly come from government representatives. Therefore, we demand a professional investigation and a clear answer regarding what kind of weapon was used, under what circumstances, and pointing to the serious consequences of a weapon not foreseen by the law.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs, as the public body responsible for peace and order, and the Chief Public Prosecutor bear the greatest responsibility for determining and disclosing what exactly happened, who executed the attack, and who organized it, as well as ensuring appropriate legal action against the perpetrators and those who ordered the attack.
Minister of Internal Affairs Ivica Dačić will bear full responsibility before the public and the law if he does not respond to this request or if the services under his jurisdiction fail to objectively and professionally determine all circumstances and disclose all facts.
